Celebrating 39 Years!

Southern Potter County Snowmobile Club recently celebrated it's 39th year as a club in December 2012. The club was organized in December of 1973 by a group of people who enjoyed winter and snowmobiling. The club started with a total of 183 members, today we have over 250. Since the club started, members have been kept busy by building bridges, cleaning trails and working together with DCNR to become a strong organization.

In 1981 the club donated a rescue sled to the fire department, to be used in snowmobile accidents. A new snowmobile and groomer were purchased as memberships increased by 100 over a two-year period. However, after several years of low snowfall, the club sold its groomer in 1990.

In January 1984, the club built a new bridge across the creek at Wharton, to connect to the old railroad grade. With this improvement, members could ride to East Fork, Cherry Springs and other areas.

Today members are diligently working on replacing bridges; one in specific is the East Fork Bridge spending over $5000 in material. The club is replacing the old bridge with a steel structure which is engineered approved. The club purchased a new snowmobile groomer and built a drag for it in 2000 and maintains 80 miles of trails. The club is responsible for grooming between Costello and Eleven Mile, Austin and Keating Summit, Austin to Wharton and Wharton to Conrad. With the help of DCNR and other snowmobile clubs we work together in maintaining Southern Potter County area trails. We have many team members who are consistently lending a helping hand spending many weekends rebuilding bridges and maintaining the trails. Your support is vital for the clubs continued success; whether it's a membership, donation or a weekend of your time.

The club has put together a 10 year business plan with DCNR for future projects and maintenance. If there is anything you as a member or landowner would like assistance on please contact one of our officers. Again the clubs appreciates everything you have done to make our club the success it is today.
